10 Common Design Mistakes (and How to Avoid Them)

10 Design Don'ts: Rookie Mistakes and How to Fix Them

We all start somewhere, and design is no different. But fear not, fellow creator! Here are 10 super common design mistakes beginners make, along with quick fixes to help your work shine:

Font Frenzy:  Having too many fonts (like 3 or more!) clashes and confuses viewers. Stick to 2 fonts: one for headings, another for body text. Choose fonts that work well together!

Rainbow Rage:  While colours are fun, using too many can make your design look messy. Pick a color palette with 2-3 main colours and maybe 1 accent color for pop.

Stock Photo Snooze fest:  Generic stock photos scream "amateur." Try finding unique images or consider creating your own simple graphics.

Alignment Blues:  Text and objects all over the place? Not good! Line things up neatly for a clean and professional look. Use grids or rulers as guides.

Confusing Contrast:  Can you barely read the text? Make sure there's enough contrast between text and background colours. Black text on white is always safe!

Tiny Text Trouble:  Squinting required? Nope! Use fonts that are big enough to read easily on all devices, especially for mobile.

Clutter Calamity: Too much stuff going on can overwhelm viewers. Keep your design clean and focused on the most important message.

Lo-Res Blues: Blurry or pixelated images look unprofessional. Use high-resolution images or graphics for a polished look.

Forget the CTA!: What do you want people to do next? Calls to action (CTAs) like"Click Here" or "Shop Now" tell viewers what to do. Make them clear and easy to find.

Winging It:  Planning is key! Before designing, take a moment to sketch some ideas and think about your target audience.

By avoiding these design pitfalls and following these simple tips, you'll be well on your way to creating professional-looking designs that impress and get noticed. Remember, design is about clear communication, so keep it clean, focused, and easy to understand. Happy designing!
